Mid-Session: Sensex surges over 179 points; Nifty at 9175

The key domestic benchmark indices continued to surge during the noon trading session amid buying in index heavyweights including HDFC Bank, LT, Adani Ports, Gail and HDFC among others. At 12:25 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 29544.43 up by 179.13 points or by 0.61 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 9175 up by 55.6 points or by 0.61 per cent. The investors remained optimistic on the US Fed paper, which said that GST can boost the country’s GDP growth by up to 4.2 per cent mainly on account of lower taxes on manufactured goods that will result in surge in output and make products cheaper. In the firm trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 29544.51 and intraday low of 29392.99 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9181.85 and intraday low of 9130.55.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1533.40,+2.45%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1726.05,+2.28%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 332.10,+1.89%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 407.85,+1.84%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1533.45,+1.75%), among others. The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1370.00,-2.77%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 555.50,-1.40%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 489.35,-0.78%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 267.10,-0.76%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 340.50,-0.69%), among others. Among the sectors, Realty index was at 1976.78 up by 55.67 points or by 2.9%. Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 152.40,+6.72%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 189.65,+3.80%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 405.50,+3.15%), Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 94.30,+2.84%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 480.50,+2.40%),.
On the flip side, HCS index was at 15063.3 down by -97.8 points or by -0.65%. Jubilant Life Sciences Ltd. (Rs. 780.40,-3.36%), Merck Ltd. (Rs. 1104.50,-2.91%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1370.45,-2.74%), Kopran Ltd. (Rs. 91.00,-2.62%), Biocon Ltd. (Rs. 1065.55,-2.56%),.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2917 , shares advanced were 1624 while 1146 shares declined and 147 were unchanged.
