The key domestic benchmark indices were trading in a negative terrain in the late morning trading session amid flattish trade in most markets across Asia and a bearish finish at Wall Street overnight.
Also market sentiments dipped as US Trade Representative Michael Froman underlined the need to improve the business environment in India in order to ensure greater investment inflow.
Shares of ACC, Wipro and Cairn India will be in focus as these companies reveal their September quarter earnings.
At 11:32 AM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 27991.12 down by 138.72 points or by 0.49 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8656.65 points, trading lower by 42.75 points or by 0.49 per cent.
The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 28163.41 and an intraday low of 27957.92 while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8709.1 and an intraday low of 8652.05
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3117.95,+1.38 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 443.50,+1.21 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2808.90,+0.74 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2412.90,+0.54 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 240.60,+0.54 per cent), among others.
Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 576.50,-3.12 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 527.55,-2.09 per cent), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1068.10,-1.87 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1337.45,-1.59 per cent), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 277.90,-1.28 per cent), were among the top losers on BSE.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2599 shares traded, 1176 shares advanced, 1227 shares declined while 196 were unchanged.
On the global front, Asian stocks were trading flat today as string of mixed corporate earnings and a drop in oil prices clouded the outlook for the global economy. US stocks closed lower in the previous trading session amid disappointing results from the likes of Verizon Communications Inc. and EBay Inc.
