The Indian swung between gains and losses in choppy trade on Wednesday, tracking mostly bearish cues from Asian markets, as traders looked to cutting down of positions ahead of June derivatives contract expiry due tomorrow. Investors also remained wary ahead of the launch of the long pending new tax regime GST on July 01. Bucking the trend, the broader markets saw surge in buying, with BSE MIDCAP and SMLCAP indices rising as much as 0.40 per cent each.

At 12:15 hours, the 30-share barometer Sensex was at 30931.02, down by 27.23 points or by 0.09 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 9519.3, up by 7.9 points or by 0.08 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 31000.48 and intraday low of 30876.25, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9522.5 and intraday low of 9479.8.

The Indian Rupee was trading flat with negative bias against the greenback on Wednesday amid fresh fund outflows by foreign funds and importers due to strong demand for the American currency. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market, the local currency was trading 01 paise lower at 64.78 per dollar against the previous close of 64.78. During the day’s trade so far, rupee touched an intra-day low of 64.83 after opening at 64.79.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1107.00,-2.38%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1409.05,-1.87%), State Bank of India (Rs. 274.95,-1.59%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 365.50,-0.48%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1643.50,-0.48%), among others.

On the flip side, Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 520.05,+1.88%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 292.50,+1.56%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7299.55,+1.50%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 208.20,+1.49%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 445.90,+0.99%), were among the top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, consumer durables and FMCG stocks emerged as top losers, falling as much as 0.93 per cent and 0.21 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2522, shares advanced were 1329 while 1040 shares declined and 153 were unchanged.

The Indian equities were trading higher in choppy trade on late morning deal on Tuesday, helped by strong buying across healthcare and financial stocks, undermining weak cues from Asian markets as investor sentiment was spooked by reports of an early election in Italy. Back home, the market rally was fueled by reports of possible arrival of monsoon on Kerala coast today along with sustained buying by domestic institutional investors. At 12:17 hours, the 30-share barometer Sensex was at 31166.41, up by 57.13 points or by 0.18 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9612.1, up by 7.2 points or by 0.07 per cent. In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 31220.38 and intraday low of 31064.04, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9631.6 and intraday low of 9581.2. The Indian Rupee extended losing streak against the greenback on Tuesday, falling 10 paise to 64.84 per dollar, amid fresh fund outflows by foreign funds and importers due to strong demand for the American currency. The muted cues from the Indian equity markets also weighed on home currency movement.

Coal India fell nearly 3 per cent, hitting 52-week low, after the state-run mining company reported a 38 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit at Rs 2,716 crore in the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2017, as against Rs 4,398 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 162.05,+3.65%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2485.30,+2.49%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 336.35,+2.45%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1136.00,+2.40%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 321.50,+2.16%), among others. On the flip side, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 204.20,-2.04%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 262.85,-1.79%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1057.00,-1.46%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 312.20,-1.20%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1584.00,-0.93%), were among the top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, healthcare and financial stocks emerged as top gainers, rising as much as 1.81 per cent and 0.52 per cent, respectively. The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2638, shares advanced were 1032 while 1451 shares declined and 155 were unchanged.

The Indian equities continued to witness broad-based selling in late morning deal on Wednesday, tracking mixed cues from fellow Asian peers after Wall Street ended lower in overnight trade amid fading hopes that the Trump government will deliver its tax cuts promises. Subex, a leading global provider of business and operations support systems, spiked nearly 8 per cent ahead of the board meeting to consider fund raising plans by issue of equity shares or such other securities. Divi's Laboratories continued losing streak of the second day and tanked over 3 per cent, hitting 52-week low, on US-FDA Import Alert 66-40 on the products manufactured at the company's Unit-II at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. At 12:24 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29267.46, down by 217.99 points or by 0.74 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9050.8, down by 70.7 points or by 0.78 per cent.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29341.41 and intraday low of 29219.59, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9072.9 and intraday low of 9036.05.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 340.15,-2.70%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1273.25,-1.63%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 465.75,-1.61%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 5985.00,-1.52%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1436.55,-1.47%), among others.

On the flip side, Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 494.30,+1.29%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2643.00,+0.77%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 595.45,+0.68%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 499.00,+0.28%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 700.10,+0.11%), were among the top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, all the indices were trading in red, barring IT stocks, with consumer durables and metal stocks were leading the decline, falling as much as 1.62 per cent and 1.37 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2799, shares advanced were 923 while 1696 shares declined and 180 were unchanged.
