The key domestic benchmarks were trading higher in late morning deal on Tuesday, helped by strong gains across consumer durables and oil&gas space, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers. Oil marketing companies, such as Indian Oil Corp, Oil India, BPCL and HPCL, were trading higher following hike in petrol and diesel prices with effective from Sunday midnight.

At 12:20 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 26674.57, up by 79.12 points or by 0.3 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8203.05, up by 23.55 points or by 0.29 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 26693.57 and intraday low of 26488.37, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8214.75 and intraday low of 8148.6.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 187.80,+2.37%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 454.65,+1.78%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 244.60,+1.41%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 304.70,+1.33%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 440.40,+1.09%), among others.

On the flip side, Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 988.00,-1.36%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3005.00,-0.78%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 308.90,-0.68%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1217.95,-0.57%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1495.90,-0.56%), were among top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, consumer durables and oil&gas stocks emerging as top gainers, adding as much as 3.16 per cent and 1.97 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2663, shares advanced were 1834 while 719 shares declined and 110 were unchanged.
