The Indian equities continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Wednesday, holding early gains, as markets sentiment were buoyed by better-than-expected 7 per cent GDP growth in the third quarter, which made India the fastest-growing large economy in the world. Among the individual stocks, Majesco rallied over 13 per cent in intra-day after the company said that its subsidiary, Majesco, USA, has launched two new solutions.
At 12:26 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 28934.29, up by 190.97 points or by 0.66 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8932.75, up by 53.15 points or by 0.6 per cent.
During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29001.35 and intraday low of 28824.17, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8950.25 and intraday low of 8898.6.
Prism Cement soared over 8 per cent after the company said that it has successfully bid for 18,300 tonnes per annum of coal from South Eastern Coalfields, a subsidiary of Coal India, in a recently held auction of coal linkages for the cement industry.
Meanwhile, the Indian rupee was trading lower by 13 paise against its US counterpart amid fund outflows by foreign funds and importers due to fresh demand for the American currency.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2925.05,+2.49%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 695.20,+2.39%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1394.65,+1.89%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 514.95,+1.74%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 876.00,+1.28%), among others.
Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 450.00,-1.35%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 362.80,-0.64%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 320.15,-0.51%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 162.45,-0.40%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1304.50,-0.19%), were among the top losers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, realty and pharma stocks were leading the gain, rising as much as 2.46 per cent and 1.2 per cent respectively.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2841, shares advanced were 1654 while 1009 shares declined and 178 were unchanged.
