Indian equities are likely to open higher on Friday, tracking firm cues from Asian peers as investors were buoyed by strong rally in US markets after the European Central Bank trimmed the size of monthly asset-buying programme, with a pledge to maintain quantitative easing beyond 2017, if required. The market may also see some buying from foreign portfolio investors, who have turned net buyers In December so far after flushing nearly Rs 23,000 crore in last two months. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) net bought shares worth Rs 193.66 crore yesterday, according to provisional data available with exchange. Bullish trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for December delivery which were trading at 8,280.00, up by 41.50 points or 0.50 per cent, at 10:50 AM Singapore time, signaling a positive start for Sensex.
The Indian benchmark indices ended on robust note on Thursday in a broad-based rally by traders, tracking firm cues from Asian peers amid hope that the European Central Bank would continue its asset buying campaign at a policy meeting later in the day. All the thirteen indices ended in positive terrain with metal and auto stocks emerging as top gainers, adding as much as 2.93 per cent and 2.63 per cent respectively. The 30-share benchmark index closed trade at 26694.28, up by 457.41 points or by 1.74 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8246.85, up by 144.8 points or by 1.79 per cent.
Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were ICICI Bank Ltd. 10305682.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 9445695.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 9432763.00, State Bank of India 9047721.00, Bank of Baroda 8724918.00.
On NSE, total number of shares traded was 78.54 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 16045.64 Crore.
On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 241865 with a total turnover of Rs. 16027.55 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 439684 with a total turnover of Rs. 29926.12 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 5832031 with a total turnover of Rs. 409577.33 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 245693 with a total turnover of Rs. 17452.10 Crore.
The FIIs on December 08, 2016 stood as net buyer in equity, but net seller in debt segment. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 4094.57 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1972.85 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 3740.17 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 4043.84 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 354.40 Crore and Rs. -2070.99.
