Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty hold early gains; realty, IT stocks up 1% : 09/12/2016 12:30

The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Friday, led by gains in index heavyweights such as Infosys, SBI, ITC, ICICI Bank, ONGC, Tech Mahindra and Bank of Baroda, tracking firm cues from Asian peers. The broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices with BSE smallcap index rising as much as 0.70 per cent.
At 12:30 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 26767, up by 72.72 points or by 0.27 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8263.05, up by 16.2 points or by 0.2 per cent.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 238.25,+2.25%), State Bank of India (Rs. 264.10,+1.67%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 265.90,+1.41%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 305.90,+1.27%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 994.95,+1.04%), among others.
Major show spoilers were Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2721.90,-1.87%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 308.00,-1.35%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1270.40,-1.30%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 161.35,-1.01%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3276.25,-0.99%), among others.
On the sectoral front, realty and IT stocks emerged as top gainers, adding as much as 1.12 per cent and 0.88 per cent respectively.
The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total shares traded 2562, shares advanced were 1413 while 989 shares declined and 160 were unchanged.
