The key domestic benchmark indices continued to reel under pressure during the noon trading session amid weak cues from the global peers.

At 12:22 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 26315.39 down by 244.53 points or by 0.92 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8113.7 down by 79.2 points or by 0.97 per cent.

Sentiments also remained downbeat after India’s auto sector reported weaker transactions for November as a severe cash crunch impacts the country, hitting retail sales.

In the choppy trade so-far, Sensex touched an intraday high of 26445.52 and an intraday low of 26289.65, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8154.15 and an intraday low of 8105.45.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 437.15,-2.45%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1244.85,-1.98%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 829.75,-1.93%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 228.85,-1.93%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3178.00,-1.93%), among others.

However, some buying interest was witnessed in stocks including Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 308.70,+0.73%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 294.00,+0.62%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 724.70,+0.40%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1000.25,+0.31%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 569.00,+0.15%), among others.

Among the sectors, FMCG index was at 7957.82 down by -127.78 points or by -1.58%. Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (Rs. 1436.00,-4.07%), Kohinoor Foods Ltd. (Rs. 59.05,-3.67%), Emami Ltd. (Rs. 1042.00,-2.92%), Radico Khaitan Ltd. (Rs. 119.00,-2.62%), Agro Tech Foods Ltd. (Rs. 458.00,-2.55%),.

On the flip side, Power index was at 1995.31 up by -1.52 points or by -0.08%. NHPC Ltd. (Rs. 28.00,+2.75%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 74.25,+1.92%), GMR Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 11.95,+1.79%), Reliance Power Ltd. (Rs. 41.20,+1.73%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 177.35,+0.80%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2505 , shares advanced were 747 while 1641 shares declined and 117 were unchanged.

On the global front, Asian peers were trading in red following mostly sluggish sessions on Wall Street and Europe, as 10-year U.S. Treasury yields surged to near 18-month highs and crude futures soared to 16-month highs.
