The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade firm during the late noon trading session amid positive global cues. Sentiments got some support with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the Goods and Services Tax law will boost domestic demand, create more opportunities for domestic business and drive job creation.
At 14:26 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 28219.37 up by 142.19 points or by 0.51 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8731 up by 37.95 points or by 0.44 per cent.
In the positive trade so-far, Sensex touched an intraday high of 28256.65 and an intraday low of 28075.95, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8736.95 and intraday low of 8684.15.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 292.00,+4.29%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 285.00,+2.63%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1535.00,+2.41%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 320.80,+2.39%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 292.25,+2.27%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 483.50,-3.15%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1136.05,-1.51%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1030.60,-0.72%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3089.40,-0.63%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 846.15,-0.58%), among others.
Among the sectors, Oil&Gas index was at 12448.25 up by 212.13 points or by 1.73%. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 291.95,+4.27%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3118 , shares advanced were 1794 while 1089 shares declined and 235 were unchanged.
On the global front, Asian peers ended the day in green, while European counters were also trading firm with investors focused on fresh economic data and corporate earnings.
