The key domestic benchmark indices opened higher in the morning trading session tracking a positive trend across markets in Asia and a strong finish at Wall Street overnight as a rally in crude oil prices to near a 15-month high following a surprise drop in US storage levels last week bolstered risk taking appetite.
Shares of RIL, Yes Bank and Biocon will be in focus as these companies reveal their September quarter earnings.
At 09:20 AM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 28155.83 up by 171.46 points or by 0.61 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8711.20 points, trading higher by 52.10 points or by 0.60 per cent.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 554.00,+0.68 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1495.00,+0.62 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 754.95,+0.61 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 428.00,+0.60 per cent), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1520.00,+0.53 per cent), among others.
Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 305.05,-0.73 per cent), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 148.00,-0.64 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2390.10,-0.17 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 239.50,-0.13 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1041.10,-0.05 per cent), were among the top losers on BSE.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total 458 shares traded, 354 shares advanced, 72 shares declined while 32 were unchanged.
On the global front, Asian stocks were trading higher today as traders eyed the outcome of the final presidential debate between Trump and Clinton. Hopes that the European Central Bank which meets today for an interest rate decision may offer some cues over a possible extension to its bond buying program may also support sentiment. US stocks closed higher in the previous trading session as a rally in crude prices bolstered shares of energy producers while better-than-expected earnings lifted bank shares.
