The Indian equities continued to trade in negative terrain in late morning deal on Thursday, tracking mixed cues from Asian peers, as rate cut by the Reserve Bank failed to lift market sentiment. Oil marketing companies, such as IOC and HPCL were trading higher after the government asked state-controlled oil companies to keep raising prices of subsidised kerosene by 25 paise every fortnight until the subsidy is eliminated. Bata India surged nearly 7 per cent, hitting 52-week high, after the company reported 20 per cent year-on-year growth in net profit at Rs 60.4 crore in June quarter, compared to Rs 50.5 crore in year ago quarter.

At 12:20 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 32337.64, down by 139.1 points or by 0.43 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 10,044.05 down by 37.45 points or by 0.37 per cent.

In the day’s trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 32502.55 and intraday low of 32282.46, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10081.15 and intraday low of 10023.15.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 245.00,-2.10%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 507.75,-1.68%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 297.05,-1.51%), State Bank of India (Rs. 303.05,-1.50%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1743.05,-1.30%), among others.

On the flip side, Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1048.00,+1.33%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1644.10,+0.92%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 173.05,+0.84%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2486.25,+0.77%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 569.90,+0.72%), were among top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, metal and bankex stocks were among top losers on BSE, falling as much as 1.22 per cent and 1.17 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2608, shares advanced were 971 while 1509 shares declined and 128 were unchanged.
