Mid-Session: Nifty, Sensex fall on global cues

A flare-up in geopolitical tensions following North Korea’s nuclear tests and dozens of quarterly earnings are likely to keep Wednesday’s session volatile on Dalal Street. Falling for the third straight session, the 30-share index dropped with sectoral indices, led by realty, healthcare, capital goods, FMCG and bank, were trading in the negative terrain.
Nearly 70 stocks, including 3i Infotech, Aarvee Denims & Exports, Ajanta Pharma, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Energy Development Company, GTPL Hathway, Housing Development and Infrastructure, JBF Industries, Jindal Photo, Lupin, NDTV, OnMobile Global, Sintex Plastics Technology, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Tata Motors hit their fresh 52-week low on NSE in Wednesday's trade.
Asian markets too are lower today as Chinese and Hong Kong shares have fallen. The Shanghai Composite is off 0.24 per cent while the Hang Seng is down 0.41 per cent. The Nikkei 225 is not trading.
At 12:10 PM, BSE Sensex was at 31878.26 down by -135.93 points or by -0.42 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 9936.6 down by -41.95 points or by -0.42 per cent.
In the trade so far, BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 31965.4 and intraday low of 31843.45 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9969.8 and intraday low of 9925.9
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 478.00,-4.48%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 561.50,-2.90%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2049.40,-2.49%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 420.40,-2.32%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 404.50,-2.29%), among others.
