Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty trade lower; rate sensitive stocks down

Amidst choppy trade, the Indian equities swung between gain and loss in late morning deal on Tuesday as investors took some breather after strong rally in the previous session. The mixed cues from Asian peers also dented market sentiment as investor weighed fresh missile launch by North Korea. Cable TV and broadband services provider GTPL Hathway were trading lower after making a quite debut on the Bombay Stock Exchange by listing at its initial public offer (IPO) price of Rs 170.
At 12:20 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 31182.4, down by 39.22 points or by 0.13 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9609.8, down by 5.2 points or by 0.05 per cent.
In the choppy trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 31353.46 and intraday low of 31166.37, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9650.65 and intraday low of 9600.95.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3705.05,-1.90%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 261.50,-1.67%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 510.40,-1.42%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2643.15,-1.41%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 338.50,-1.11%), among others.
On the flip side, Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1406.35,+1.61%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 371.90,+1.05%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 160.50,+0.91%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 959.30,+0.83%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 157.85,+0.80%), were among top gainers on the BSE.
On the sectoral front, rate sensitive realty and auto stocks were among top loses, falling as much as 0.84 per cent and 0.58 per cent respectively.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was flat. On BSE out of total shares traded 2651, shares advanced were 1241 while 1278 shares declined and 132 were unchanged.
