The Indian benchmarks are set to open flat on Thursday amid mixed cues from Asian peers ahead of the Caixin PMI data from China due later in the morning. Also, Wall Street ended flat in the previous trading session as financials dropped after JPMorgan and Bank of America warned of revenue weakness. On the economic front, the investors are expected to react to the GDP numbers as the Government unveiled GDP figures for the quarter ended on May 31, Wednesday post market hours. The Indian economy grew at 7.1 percent in 2016-17 identical to the expansion projected in February, but slower than the previous year’s 8 percent growth. Muted trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for June delivery, which were trading at 9630, down by 7.00 points or 0.07 per cent, at 10:46 AM Singapore time, signaled a flat to lower opening for the domestic bourses.
On Wednesday, the Indian equities ended tad lower in lackluster trade as investors resorted to profit booking ahead of the fourth quarter gross domestic product (GDP) data. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed trade at 31145.8, down by 13.6 points or by 0.04 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 9621.25, down by 3.3 points or by 0.03 per cent. Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – ICICI Bank Ltd. 116761345.00, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. 66923743.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 26247788.00, Vedanta Ltd. 17882967.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd. 15400633.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 180.99 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 39298.24 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 152771 with a total turnover of Rs. 12318.79 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 734806 with a total turnover of Rs. 51591.81 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 4059728 with a total turnover of Rs. 357956.18 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 352558 with a total turnover of Rs. 25815.51 Crore. The FIIs on 31/05/2017 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 3421.99 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1857.26 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 3593.76 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 691.66 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -171.77 Crore and Rs. 1165.60
