The Indian equities continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Monday, driven by strong gains across rate sensitive realty and banking stocks, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers. The market sentiment got a lift by the landslide victory of pro-European Union candidate Emmanuel Macron in the French polls on Sunday and rebound in crude oil prices from record low. On the corporate front, ACC and Ambuja Cements gained 5 per cent each after their board decided to commence an evaluation of a potential merger between them.

At 12:16 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading 29931.48, up by 72.68 points or by 0.24 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9316.2, up by 30.9 points or by 0.33 per cent. The Indian Rupee were trading 15 paise higher at 64.39 against the greenback amid selling of dollar by banks and exporters, while fresh fund inflows by foreign portfolio investors boosted rupee’s movement. In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 30016.04 and intraday low of 29877.41, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9338.7 and intraday low of 9297.95. The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 306.65,+2.71%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 187.00,+1.96%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 424.10,+1.04%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 503.50,+1.01%), State Bank of India (Rs. 298.60,+0.90%), among others.

On the flip side Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 339.40,-1.59%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 275.00,-0.74%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 429.80,-0.74%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 949.00,-0.51%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 207.85,-0.50%), were among the top losers on BSE. On the sectoral front, realty and bankex stocks emerged as top gainers, rising as much as 1.67 per cent and 0.88 per cent, respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2768, shares advanced were 1590 while 1016 shares declined and 162 were unchanged.
