Indian equities are poised to open higher on Friday, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers after Wall Street ended higher in overnight trade on strong earnings report and renewed optimism over US President Donald Trump's tax reform plans. Investors also remained focused on the first round of French presidential elections on Sunday, while reports of a shooting in Paris kept investors jittery. Firm trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for April delivery, which were trading at 9,177.50, up by 17.50 points or 0.19 per cent, at 10:40 AM Singapore time, also signaled a positive opening for local bourses. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs), which were largely buyers of Indian equities, started limiting their exposure to Indian equities on concerns over the health of the global economy. In lack of any major trigger on domestic or global front, market will see stock-specific movement based on the fourth quarter earnings report. Investors will react to earnings report of MindTree after the IT firm reported 26.8 per cent fall in its net profit at Rs 97.20 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2017, compared to Rs 132 crore in the same quarter last year. Among others, Wipro may see some movement after media report suggested that IT major has sacked around 500 employees as part of its appraisal process. On the corporate front, HDFC Bank, ACC and Tata Metaliks will release their financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2017 today.
On Thursday, the Indian equities ended higher amid bargain hunting as recent fall has created a unique investment opportunity for investors to pick over stocks that had been beaten down this month. The sustained buying by domestic institutional investors coupled with normal monsoon forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also pushed market higher. Private sector lender YES Bank ended 3.76 per cent lower amid concerns over weakening asset quality as its gross non-performing assets rose to 1.52 per cent of total loans, as compared to 0.76 per cent in the year-ago quarter. Net NPA too grew to 0.81 per cent from 0.29 per cent during the same period previous fiscal. The BSE SENSEX closed at 29422.39, up by 85.82 points or by 0.29 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 9136.4, up by 32.9 points or by 0.36 per cent.
