Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty trade in green; Shankara Building Products up 34%

The Indian equities continued to trade higher, albeit pared most of early gains, tracking mixed cues from Asian peers, as cautioned prevailed in the market ahead of the Reserve Bank policy review tomorrow, though no change in rates are expected, but outlook for the next one year, including NPA resolution and liquidity management, would be key to watch for. Adding to it, the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government’s decision to write off crop loans worth Rs 36,000 crore, also weighed on market sentiment. Shankara Building Products, which recently concluded its Rs 350-crore initial public offer, made a stellar debut at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), surging over 34 per cent against the issue price of Rs 460. The stock listed at Rs 555 on BSE, reflecting a jump of 21 per cent over the issue price.

At 12:20 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29953.25, up by 43.03 points or by 0.14 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9246.15, up by 8.3 points or by 0.09 per cent.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 30007.48 and intraday low of 29817.69, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9264.95 and intraday low of 9215.4.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 354.50,+3.70%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1403.60,+2.36%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 496.50,+2.30%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 6174.00,+1.67%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 167.30,+1.55%), among others.

On the flip side, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1499.25,-2.18%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1000.00,-0.94%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 279.40,-0.82%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 293.10,-0.64%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1084.40,-0.61%), were among the top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, realty and consumer durables stocks were leading the gain, adding as much as 4.36 per cent and 2.35 per cent, respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2948, shares advanced were 1986 while 832 shares declined and 130 were unchanged.
