Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty stay on firm footing; broader markets shine

The Indian equities rebounded strongly on Tuesday, helped by buying across FMCG, realty and PSU stocks, tracking firm cues from Asian peers. Broader markets extended previous session rally, with the Midcap and Smallcap indices rising 0.24 per cent and 0.59 per cent respectively, on positive breadth. ITC was top gainer, jumping over 2 per cent, after the company said that it is expanding its juice portfolio with target to achieve around 20 per cent market share in five years in the packaged fruit juice segment.
At 12:25 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29733.48, up by 157.74 points or by 0.53 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9220.3, up by 38.85 points or by 0.42 per cent.
During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 29787.05 and intraday low of 29570.58, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9237.6 and intraday low of 9172.85.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 279.65,+2.25%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 966.05,+1.37%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 280.95,+1.19%), State Bank of India (Rs. 291.80,+0.97%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 508.00,+0.92%), among others.
On the flip side, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 336.90,-4.09%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 489.50,-1.20%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 165.30,-0.78%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2816.35,-0.75%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 584.15,-0.75%), were among the top losers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, FMCG and PSU stocks were leading the gain, adding as much as 1.18 per cent and 0.76 per cent, respectively.
The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2854, shares advanced were 1670 while 1064 shares declined and 120 were unchanged.
