Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty continue to trade higher; Skipper up 10%

The Indian equities stayed on firm footing in late morning deal on Friday on sustained buying across PSU and bank stocks, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers. The market sentiments also got a lift after the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley assured to resolve non-performing assets (NPA) issue soon. FM, though, did not disclose the timeline for the announcement, but asserted that the resolution may be arrived at a level higher than RBI's oversight panel, PTI reported. Among the Individual stocks, Skipper rallied over 10 per cent, hitting 52-week high, after it secured contracts worth Rs 405 crores approx for supply of Transmission Towers to the projects of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), Transmission Corporation of Telengana Limited (TSTRANSCO) and Power Transmission Corporation of Uttrakhand Limited (PTCUL).

At 12:30 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29455.74, up by 123.58 points or by 0.42 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9119.05, up by 32.75 points or by 0.36 per cent.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29500.19 and intraday low of 29350.17, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9131.95 and intraday low of 9089.4.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 274.75,+2.88%), State Bank of India (Rs. 274.05,+2.07%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 281.65,+1.35%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 342.45,+1.20%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 381.00,+1.10%), among others.

On the flip side, Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2844.50,-0.70%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 192.00,-0.60%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2445.45,-0.55%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 593.70,-0.48%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 324.00,-0.34%), were among the top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, bank and PSU stocks were leading the gain, adding as much as 1.1 per cent and 0.99 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2845, shares advanced were 1526 while 1137 shares declined and 182 were unchanged.
