Indian equities are set to open flat to higher on Thursday, tracking muted cues from fellow Asian peers and mixed closing of Wall Street in overnight trade, as investors may react to the Reserve Bank policy outcome. The central bank has maintained status quo in its latest policy review, while the industry was expecting at least 25 basis points reduction in the policy interest rates as the demonetization has resulted in a windfall gains for the banks in the form of ultra-low cost funds. Bullish trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for February delivery, which were trading at 8,826.00, up by 14 points or 0.16 per cent, at 11:00 AM Singapore time, also signaled a flat to positive opening for Sensex. The traders would also react to earnings reports as over 250 companies will unveil their quarterly results today, including Bata India, BPCL, Bank of India, Cairn India, Power Grid, Lupin and SAIL.

On Wednesday, the key domestic benchmarks ended tad lower for the second day as investor gave thumbs down to the Reserve Bank’s status quo in its latest policy stance. The industry was expecting at least 25 basis points reduction in the policy interest rates as the demonetization has resulted in a windfall gains for the banks in the form of ultra-low cost funds. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed at 28289.92, down by 45.24 points or by 0.16 per cent, while the NSE Nifty ended at 8769.05, up by 0.75 points or by 0.01 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Idea Cellular Ltd. 30160136.00, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. 25137024.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 15148162.00, State Bank of India 13622088.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 11287445.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 135.86 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 22189.16 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 235842 with a total turnover of Rs. 17263.48 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 578314 with a total turnover of Rs. 41375.26 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 4577292 with a total turnover of Rs. 349557.40 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 348725 with a total turnover of Rs. 26000.72 Crore.

As on February 08 2017, the FIIs stood as net buyer in both equity and debt segments. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 4393.68 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 2010.85 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 4123.38 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1302.64 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 270.30 Crore and Rs. 708.21.
