The key domestic benchmark continued to trade higher in broad-based rally on Monday with metal, telecom, diary and realty stocks rallying over 1 per cent, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers. Telecom companies such as Tata Tele, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular seen surge in buying on merger report. Idea Cellular jumped over 5 per cent after PTI reported that Vodafone has brought in Martin Pieters — former managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of its Indian arm — to work on the proposed merger with Aditya Birla group company.
At 12:26 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex 28532.61, up by 63.86 points or by 0.22 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8842.35, up by 20.65 points or by 0.23 per cent.
In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 28554.3 and intraday low of 28419.27, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8847.4 and intraday low of 8809.8.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 527.40,+3.46%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 481.40,+2.87%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 376.80,+1.98%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2451.00,+1.78%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 205.60,+1.56%), among others.
On the flip side, TC Ltd. (Rs. 266.20,-0.76%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 486.00,-0.61%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1309.20,-0.58%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1395.00,-0.50%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 193.35,-0.49%), were among top losers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, all the indices were trading in green with metal and realty stocks leading the rally, gaining as much as 1.45 per cent and 1.12 per cent respectively.
The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2853, shares advanced were 1676 while 1012 shares declined and 165 were unchanged
