Indian equities are poised to open flat and may continue to consolidate on Monday, tracking weak cues from fellow Asian peers, ahead of key earnings result later in the day. Bearish trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for January delivery, which were trading at 8,400.00, down by 24.00 points or 0.29 per cent, at 10:56 AM Singapore time, also signaled a negative start for Sensex. On the global front, Asian stocks were trading in red with all the three major markets, Hang Seng, Nikkei and Shanghai indices remained under stress. Back home, oil companies will remain in focus after government raised petrol prices by 42 paise a litre and and diesel rate by Rs 1.03 a litre on Sunday. Shares of Reliance Industries, LIC Housing Finance, Geometric and Dewan Housing Finance Corporation will also remain in limelight as they will release their earnings report later today.

On Friday, the Indian equity benchmarks ended tad lower as losses in IT and Teck indices were offset by gain across FMCG and bank space. The market witnessed selling in frontline bluechips such as Infosys, TCS, NTPC, Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp and Maruti Suzuki. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed trade at 27238.06, down by 9.1 points or by 0.03 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8400.35, down by 6.85 points or by 0.08 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Idea Cellular Ltd. 26945261.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 17430533.00, Infosys Ltd. 15638123.00, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. 13462319.00, Axis Bank Ltd. 12693510.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 88.74 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 18619.03 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 186126 with a total turnover of Rs. 12615.71 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 579319 with a total turnover of Rs. 37412.74 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2736355 with a total turnover of Rs. 185283.87 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 503816 with a total turnover of Rs. 31806.14 Crore.

The FIIs on January 13, 2017 stood as net seller in both equity and debt segment. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 3316.38 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 712.55 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 3318.01 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 791.43 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1.63 Crore and Rs. -78.88.
