Indian equities are poised to open higher on Wednesday, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers as investors remained focused to President-elect Donald Trump's first news conference later in the day. Firm trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for January delivery, which were trading at 8,331.00, up by 33 points or 0.40 per cent, at 10:46 AM Singapore time, also signaled a positive start for Sensex. Globally, Asian stocks were trading mostly higher as investors remained focused to President-elect Donald Trump's first news conference later in the day. In the overnight trade, Wall Street ended mixed, with the Nasdaq Composite hitting record high, as traders booked some profit ahead of the President-elect Donald Trump's first news conference later today who promised of increased infrastructure spending and tax cuts. Back home, investors would also react to the World Bank projection of GDP growth to 7 per cent for FY17 from 7.6 per cent estimated earlier. Stocks of South Bank, Mpilcorpl, ISFL, Bancoindia and Alpha will remain in focus as they will unveil their third quarter earnings later today.

On Tuesday, Indian equity benchmarks ended higher, with benchmark index Sensex ended nearly 173 points higher, while NSE Nifty settled above 8,280-mark, on value-buying in select blue-chip stocks despite caution as December quarter corporate earnings season begins, amidst mixed cues from fellow Asian peers. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed trade at 26,899.56 up by 173.01 points or 0.65 per cent, while the NSE Nifty ended at 8,288.6 up by 52.55 points or 0.64 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Hindalco Industries Ltd. 15806841.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 13440037.00, ITC Ltd. 11977335.00, Axis Bank Ltd. 9436151.00, State Bank of India 9352013.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 91.13 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 17867.45 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 137774 with a total turnover of Rs. 9168.94 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 470929 with a total turnover of Rs. 31054.67 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2361337 with a total turnover of Rs. 161307.91 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 280959 with a total turnover of Rs. 19203.39 Crore.

The FIIs on January 10, 2017 stood as net seller in equity but net buyer in debt segment. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 2202.68 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1223.08 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 2588.10 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 727.46 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -385.42 Crore and Rs. 495.62.
