Indian equities are set to open flat to lower on Wednesday, tracking weakness in fellow Asian peers as Wall Street ended lower in overnight trade, as investors remained wary ahead of Donald Trump’s taking charged on Friday. Back home, in a major respite to foreign portfolio investors (FPI), the Income Tax (I-T) Department on Tuesday put on hold its controversial circular on taxing indirect transfers of Indian assets, which may led to fresh fund inflows in equity market. Investors would also react to strong earnings report by Indian Inc and clarity over GST rollout. Shares of Sasken, Muthtfn, Kirlosind and KPIT will also remain in limelight as they will release their earnings report later today.

On Tuesday, Indian equity benchmarks ended tad lower, tracking mixed cues from fellow Asian peers, weighed down by losses in metal and oil&gas stocks. Shares of logistic companies extended rally today after the government cleared road for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rollout from July 1 this year instead of the earlier deadline of April 1. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed trade at 27235.66, down by 52.51 points or by 0.19 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8398, down by 14.8 points or by 0.18 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Axis Bank Ltd. 11331156.00, State Bank of India 9480201.00, Reliance Industries Ltd. 8968290.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 7373767.00, NTPC Ltd. 6560938.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 83.23 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 17126.36 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 181739 with a total turnover of Rs. 12477.69 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 521545 with a total turnover of Rs. 35373.02 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 3637882 with a total turnover of Rs. 254452.93 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 407228 with a total turnover of Rs. 27754.23 Crore.

The FIIs on January 17, 2017 stood as net seller in both equity and debt segment. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 2387.39 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 74.60 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 2725.90 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 601.11 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -338.51 Crore and Rs. -526.51.
