Indian equities are poised to open lower in the morning trading session after Asian stocks and the dollar were off to a subdued start and as oil prices plunged as much as 4 percent overnight.

Flat trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for January delivery, which were trading at 8267, up by 19 points or 0.23 per cent, at 10:37 AM Singapore time, also signalled a flat to marginally lower start for Sensex. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly lower after the Dow retreated further from the 20,000 mark.

On Monday, Indian equity benchmarks ended tad lower in lackluster trading session as gain across FMCG, banking and realty space were offset by loss in healthcare, oil&gas, power, utilities, telecom and consumer durables stocks.

Sustained fund outflows by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs), falling rupee and concerns over corporate earnings post demonetization further dented market sentiment.

The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed trade at 26726.55, down by 32.68 points or by 0.12 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8236.05, down by 7.75 points or by 0.09 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – State Bank of India 8329253.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 7159359.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 6143220.00, Bank of Baroda 6078686.00, Infosys Ltd. 5272846.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 76.34 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 14510.43 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 113423 with a total turnover of Rs. 7530.90 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 387970 with a total turnover of Rs. 25131.90 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 1972163 with a total turnover of Rs. 134176.11 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 219314 with a total turnover of Rs. 14817.95 Crore. The FIIs on 09/01/2017 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 4542.95 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1829.51 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 4585.82 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1079.02 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -42.87 Crore and Rs. 750.49.
