The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade higher, albeit paring most of early gains, during the noon trading session, amid fresh buying by retail and foreign portfolio investors after the Income Tax (I-T) Department on Tuesday put on hold its controversial circular on taxing indirect transfers of Indian assets, which may led to fresh fund inflows in equity market. Investors were also buoyed by strong earnings report by Indian Inc and clarity over GST rollout.

At 12:30 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 27,287.78 up by 52.12 points or 0.18 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 8,424.45, up by 26.45 points or 0.31 per cent.

Buying momentum was witnessed mainly in the metal and capital goods sector stocks.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 864.50,+2.85%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 465.90,+2.58%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 299.45,+1.66%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1467.25,+1.45%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1252.00,+1.09%), among others.

Major show spoilers were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 313.80,-1.18%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 174.35,-0.74%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 443.30,-0.48%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2965.00,-0.42%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2719.45,-0.38%), among others.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE, out of the total 2,534 shares traded, 1,573 advanced while 799 shares declined and 162 remained unchanged.
