The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade lower in late morning deal on Friday as investors resorted to profit booking in PSU and consumer durables stocks. Shares of Axis Bank fell over 5 per cent after the private sector lender reported a sharp fall of 73.4 per cent in its net profit after tax at Rs 579.57 crore on year-on-year basis for the third quarter ended December 31, 2016, as its asset quality worsened.

At 12:17 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 27217.69, down by 90.91 points or by 0.33 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8415.45, down by 19.65 points or by 0.23 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 27264.41 and intraday low of 27176.32, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8423.65 and intraday low of 8397.05.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 458.30,-5.25%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 265.70,-1.48%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 198.25,-1.39%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 199.30,-1.34%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 304.80,-1.12%), among others.

On the flip side, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 325.25,+2.75%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 969.00,+0.93%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 585.05,+0.91%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 867.40,+0.83%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1244.00,+0.74%), were among top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, consumer durables and PSU stocks were leading the decline, falling as much as 1.75 per cent and 0.87 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total shares traded 2641, shares advanced were 1374 while 1091 shares declined and 176 were unchanged.
