The key domestic benchmarks continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Thursday amid sustained buying by retail and domestic institutional investors, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers. The traders maintained fresh position in stocks ahead of ahead of key macroeconomic data to be released later in the day.

At 12:16 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was 27197.6, up by 57.19 points or by 0.21 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8399.75, up by 19.1 points or by 0.23 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 27278.93 and intraday low of 27166.69, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8417.2 and intraday low of 8382.3.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 197.65,+4.16%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 170.15,+3.50%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1442.30,+2.09%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 988.50,+2.01%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 201.25,+1.87%), among others.

On the flip side, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2990.00,-1.88%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 311.65,-1.58%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 637.60,-1.56%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1503.60,-1.10%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 245.25,-0.91%), were among top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, power and capital goods stocks emerging as top gainers, adding as much as 2.18 per cent and 1.2 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2669, shares advanced were 1128 while 1374 shares declined and 167 were unchanged.
