The key domestic benchmark indices extended day’s gain in late morning deal on Thursday, driven by strong buying across oil&gas and consumer durables space, undermining weakness in Asian markets. Sustained buying by retail and foreign portfolio investors coupled with strong corporate earnings reports also supported market sentiment.

At 12:10 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 27316.52, up by 58.88 points or by 0.22 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8431.95, up by 14.95 points or by 0.18 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 864.50,+2.85%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 465.90,+2.58%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 299.45,+1.66%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1467.25,+1.45%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1252.00,+1.09%), among others.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 27338.96 and intraday low of 27219.89, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8439.25 and intraday low of 8404.05.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 453.40,+3.20%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 321.60,+2.52%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 533.45,+1.97%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 295.65,+1.32%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 200.40,+1.29%), among others.

Major show spoilers were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 476.10,-1.17%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 484.00,-0.89%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 576.70,-0.84%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1208.75,-0.60%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 465.00,-0.56%), among others.

On the sectoral front, oil&gas and consumer durables stocks were leading the rally, gaining as much as 1.75 per cent and 0.87 per cent respectively.
