The key domestic benchmarks slipped into the negative terrain in late morning deal on Wednesday, paring early losses, weighed down by losses in financial and FMCG stocks. The market sentiments were also dented by concerns over fresh hurdle in the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) amid turf between the Centre and states over double control and compensation, which indicates that the April 1 deadline is likely to be missed.

At 12:20 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 26630.94, down by 12.3 points or by 0.05 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8189.45, down by 2.8 points or by 0.03 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 26723.37 and intraday low of 26606.06, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8218.5 and intraday low of 8180.9.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1075.25,-1.41%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 819.65,-1.21%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1491.55,-0.95%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 568.75,-0.94%), State Bank of India (Rs. 243.25,-0.65%), among others.

On the flip side, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 195.60,+1.45%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 487.65,+1.33%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 473.05,+1.19%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2645.90,+0.98%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 308.10,+0.92%), were among top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, bank and FMCG stocks emerging as top losers, falling as much as 0.44 per cent and 0.43 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2676, shares advanced were 1595 while 958 shares declined and 123 were unchanged.
