Indian equities are poised to open flat on last trading day of the year after Asian stocks and the dollar were off to a subdued start on Friday as investors took profits on the last trading day of 2016, while the euro briefly spiked in thin trade.
Muted trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for December delivery, which were trading at 8134, up by 17.50 points or 0.22 per cent, at 10:26 AM Singapore time, also signalled a flat to marginally higher start for Sensex. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly lower as investors took profit from recent gains in the holiday season. On Thursday, Indian equity benchmarks ended higher with benchmark index Sensex ended nearly 155 points higher, while the NSE Nifty settled above the psychological level of 8,100-mark as participants rushed to rollover their December future & options contracts on expiry day amidst mixed cues from fellow Asian peers.
The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed trade at 26,366.15, up by 155.47 points or 0.59 per cent, while the NSE Nifty ended at 8,103.6, up by 68.75 points or 0.86 per cent.
Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Bank of Baroda 19597740.00, ITC Ltd. 14052730.00, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. 13079156.00, Idea Cellular Ltd. 11121332.00, State Bank of India 10658616.00.
On NSE, total number of shares traded was 99.60 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 19268.58 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 410843 with a total turnover of Rs. 26312.00 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1193193 with a total turnover of Rs. 73019.95 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 8151072 with a total turnover of Rs. 524328.20 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 389208 with a total turnover of Rs. 25915.47 Crore.
The FIIs on 29/12/2016 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 2302.10 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1301.32 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 2828.48 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 199.57 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -526.38 Crore and Rs. 1101.75
