The key domestic benchmark indices continued to extend losses during the noon trading session as investors cut down their bets, tracking a weak trend in global market.
At 12:25 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 27555.31 down by 321.3 points or by 1.15 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8520.8 down by 105.45 points or by 1.22 per cent.
Anxiety in markets has expanded over a possible Trump victory given uncertainty on the Republican candidate’s stance on several issues including foreign policy, trade relations and immigrants, while Clinton is viewed as a candidate of the status quo.
Meanwhile, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC)'s two-day meet on monetary policy will conclude today. The US Federal Reserve is expected to keep interest rates unchanged on Wednesday but set the stage for a hike in December amid signs the economy is picking up steam.
In the bearish trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 27679.32 and intraday low of 27535.02 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8549.5 and intraday low of 8515.65. The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1357.00,+2.61%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 156.45,+0.97%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 841.25,+0.72%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 277.80,-3.94%), State Bank of India (Rs. 251.50,-2.67%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 516.95,-2.64%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 421.40,-2.54%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 719.95,-1.89%), among others.
Among the sectors, Oil&Gas index was at 11986.09 down by -329.39 points or by -2.67%. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 277.80,-3.94%), Petronet LNG Ltd. (Rs. 367.90,-3.88%), Castrol India Ltd. (Rs. 437.50,-3.10%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 315.95,-2.80%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 421.40,-2.54%),.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2832 , shares advanced were 765 while 1966 shares declined and 101 were unchanged.
On the global front, Asian peers were hovering in red after Wall Street’s ‘fear index’ spiked on jitters over the US presidential election.
