Mid-Session: Sensex gains 85 points on robust PMI data 01/11/2016 12:32

The key domestic benchmark indices gained momentum during the noon trading session supported by gains in HDFC, Power Grid, NTPC and Tata Steel among others.
Sentiments remained upbeat after growth in India's manufacturing activity touched a 22-month high in October with a stronger rise in new orders as well as output, the widely tracked Nikkei India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index showed.
After falling to 52.1 in September, PMI rose to 54.4 in October. The 50 point mark separates expansion from contraction.
At 12:25 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 28016.15 up by 85.94 points or by 0.31 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 8653.55 up by 27.85 points or by 0.32 per cent.
Sensex touched intraday high of 28027.29 and intraday low of 27872.15 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8653.95 and intraday low of 8614.5.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1421.55,+2.95%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 179.00,+2.31%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 413.30,+2.14%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 154.40,+2.08%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1086.95,+1.08%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 480.50,-1.50%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 287.40,-0.88%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 741.95,-0.84%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 528.05,-0.81%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2375.70,-0.79%), among others.
Among the sectors, Metal index was at 10636.75 up by 319.2 points or by 3.09%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 220.80,+9.06%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 272.40,+7.86%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 157.85,+5.37%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 138.10,+3.68%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 78.05,+3.45%),.
On the flip side, CDS index was at 12832.22 down by -95.2 points or by -0.74%. PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 498.00,-2.55%), TTK Prestige Ltd. (Rs. 6348.00,-1.10%), Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 475.00,-1.06%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 377.80,-1.06%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 1145.20,-0.42%),.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2850 , shares advanced were 1512 while 1209 shares declined and 129 were unchanged.
On the global front, Asian peers were trading in green after the release of encouraging purchasing managers index data from China. China's official manufacturing PMI rose to 51.2 in October from 50.4 in September, adding to signs that the world's second-largest economy is stabilizing.
