Markets pare early gains; Infosys, HUL shares dip 14/10/2016 10:16

The key domestic benchmark indices pared early gains in the morning trading session as lack of significant upside triggers on the domestic front and discouraging developments from the global front continued to dissuade investors from Indian equities.

But, traders may get some support with retail or CPI inflation hitting a 13-month low, aided by lower food prices especially those of vegetables.

Shares of TCS may witness some upward momentum as the country’s largest IT software exporter on Thursday in after-market hours posted better-than-expected Q2 earnings.

At 10:10 AM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 27605.82 down by 37.29 points or by 0.13 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8564.4 points, trading higher by 8.95 points or by 0.1 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 27763.54 and an intraday low of 27548.18 while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8600.2 and an intraday low of 8549.8



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 276.70,+1.71 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 420.10,+1.57 per cent), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1072.90,+1.44 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1451.40,+1.04 per cent), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 175.80,+0.77 per cent), among others.

Meanwhile, Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1024.00,-2.67 per cent), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 843.65,-2.12 per cent), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1460.95,-1.31 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 303.25,-1.08 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 411.60,-0.54 per cent), were among the top losers on BSE.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total 1974 shares traded, 1162 shares advanced, 717 shares declined while 95 were unchanged.

On the global front, Asian stocks were trading higher today after positive China inflation data signaled some strength in the world’s second biggest economy. US stocks closed lower in the previous trading session amid worries that sagging global growth may weigh on the US economy when the Fed is all set to begin tightening monetary policy.
