Pre-Session: Sensex, Nifty likely to start on negative note
17/07/2019 08:28
Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a negative opening for the broader index in India on Wednesday. Investors will track June quarter earnings and global cues in today's trading session for more cues. India’s fourth-largest software company, Wipro, is scheduled to release its June quarter results today. Additionally, Mindtree, YES Bank, and 10 other companies are scheduled to announce their June quarter results today. On the global front, Asian shares were creeping lower on Wednesday after a lacklustre performance by Wall Street, while the dollar got a lift from robust US retail data and a Brexit-driven dive in the pound. US stocks edged lower on Tuesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.09 per cent to 27,336, the S&P 500 lost 0.34 per cent to 3,004 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.43 per cent to 8,223. The rupee on July 16 depreciated by 17 paise to close at 68.71 against the US dollar due to rising crude oil prices and foreign fund outflows. A strengthening US dollar against major currencies overseas also weighed on the rupee sentiment, forex traders said. However, sustained buying in the domestic equity market restricted the rupee's fall, they added. On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark ended at 39131.04 up by 234.33 points or by 0.6 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11662.6 up by 74.25 points.
