* AVIATION: The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its order on petitions seeking a probe into purchase of Rafale fighter aircraft from Dassault Aviation of France. The government's proposed move to pare 290 bln rupees of Air India's debt is a short-term measure and not an alternative to divestment plans, said Pradeep Singh Kharola, chairman and managing director of the national carrier.

* OIL AND GAS: India on Wednesday expressed its "readiness" to import more crude oil and gas from the US, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said in a press briefing on the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice-President Michael Pence in Singapore.

* TAXATION: The government has collected around 5 trln rupees in direct taxes so far in the current financial year ending March, Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairman Sushil Chandra said.
