Mid-Session: Sensex surges 200 pts, Nifty reclaims 9,800; realty, PSU stocks gain

The Indian equities continued gaining momentum on Wednesday, tracking firm cues from Asian markets, as traders anticipated progress on tax reform in the US.
Investors also shrugged off geo-political tensions and shifted focus to policy statements from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen and European Central Bank President Mario Draghi which could have positive impact on the market. Fortis Healthcare jumped nearly 8 per cent after Rekha Jhunjhunwala, wife of investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, acquired 0.9 per cent stake in the company at Rs 134.65 per share through a bulk deal on Tuesday.
At 12:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 31484.33, up by 192.48 points or by 0.62 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9811.65, up by 46.1 points or by 0.47 per cent.
In the day’s trade so far, the Sensex touched intraday high of 31481.43 and intraday low of 31379.25, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9817.85 and intraday low of 9786.75per cent.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2039.40,+2.75%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 899.45,+2.54%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 382.75,+2.20%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 430.00,+1.98%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 170.25,+1.67%), among others.On the flip side, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1189.50,-0.94%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2489.90,-0.25%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1561.00,-0.15%), were among top losers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, realty and PSU stocks were among top gainers, rising as much as 2.76 per cent and 0.97 per cent, respectively.
