* AUTOMOBILE: The Cabinet today is likely to consider an ordinance to increase the cess on mid-size and large cars, and sports utility vehicles to 25% from 15% under the goods and services tax regime.

* AVIATION: The GMR group plans to invest 160 bln rupees for an expansion of Delhi airport that
will double the capacity of domestic terminal T1, increase the capacity of international terminal T3, lay a new runway, and build a new terminal over the next seven years.

* BANKING: The Financial Benchmark India is in discussions with the Reserve Bank of India and market participants to develop a new benchmark based on repo transactions, which is likely to replace the Mumbai Interbank Offered Rate in a few years.

* COMMODITY: The Indian Commodity Exchange is all set to re-launch its commodity derivatives operations with the world's first diamond futures contracts on Monday.

* ENERGY: Cairn Energy Plc has added another $249 mln to the compensation it is claiming from India.

* EXPORT: The government, through Export Credit Guarantee Corp, may give a leg-up to exports which have been hurt by the strengthening rupee.

* HEALTHCARE: Sweden-based Medicover group has acquired 22% stake in Hyderabad-based Sahrudaya Healthcare, which runs nine speciality hospitals under the MaxCure Hospitals brand, for 1 bln rupees.

* INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: The Delhi High Court has sought replies from the India units of Google, Facebook and Yahoo on action taken to control the menace of online game 'Blue Whale'.
* INFRASTRUCTURE: The Delhi government will spend 6.54 bln rupees to construct 5,012 houses for economically weaker sections at three locations in the national capital.

* MARKETS: Asia Index launched the S&P BSE Bharat 22 index, to be used as a benchmark for the exchange-traded fund comprising companies in which the government plans to pare stake.

* MEDIA: In a major relief to sports media rights holders like Star India, the Supreme Court has barred Prasar Bharati from airing live broadcasting signal of sporting events of national importance on pay television platforms.

* PHARMACEUTICAL: India has granted US pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc a patent for its pneumonia vaccine Prevnar 13, in spite of opposition from the health group Medecins Sans Frontieres.

* POWER: Solar Energy Corp of India has signed a power purchase agreement with Germany-based IBC SOLAR AG for a 20-MW solar power plant in Odisha.

* REGULATORY: The Securities and Exchange Board of India has appointed Ernst & Young and Deloitte India to hold a forensic audit to establish collusion between brokers and officials of the National Stock Exchange in the co-location row.

* TELECOMMUNICATION: Vodafone India net lost 1.4 mln users in July, which brought down its market share to 22.17% from 22.37% the previous month.
