Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty stay on firm footing; oil&gas, power stocks up 1%

The Indian equities continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Monday, supported by strong rally in oil&gas and power stocks, on sustained buying by foreign portfolio investors after US Fed Chair Janet Yellen dropped a strong hint of a rate hike this month.
At 12:16 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 28997.32, up by 164.87 points or by 0.57 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8947.2, up by 49.65 points or by 0.56 per cent.
During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29070.2 and intraday low of 28856.12, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8967.8 and intraday low of 8914.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1303.00,+3.54%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 194.70,+1.99%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 158.30,+1.60%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 465.90,+1.26%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1025.80,+1.11%), among others.
Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2458.00,-1.38%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 678.05,-1.13%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 869.25,-0.90%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 489.75,-0.54%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1027.00,-0.40%), were among the top losers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, oil&gas and power stocks were leading the gain, adding as much as 1.18 per cent and 0.94 per cent respectively.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2903, shares advanced were 1510 while 1219 shares declined and 173 were unchanged.
